Anyone born in the UK in January will know the struggle of a birthday during that windy, cold, glum month, so when I was told that this year I’d be going away to somewhere much warmer you can imagine my excitement!
My favourite part of the holiday (other than basking in the 24 degree heat while the UK was suffering in the cold), must be the quad biking excursion we went on at sunset.
We set off on a seemingly endless route up, and up and up through Parque Nacional del Teide – stopping at the top to admire Mount Teide, a towering volcano and the highest peak in Spain – whilst the guide educated us on the surrounding areas and Tenerife and the Canary Islands generally. The cloud formations whisping around the peak of the volcano really was a sight to see.
After all the views had been taken in and a quick bite consumed, we started our descent to find somewhere to plot up and watch the sunset.
I’ve always been a fan of pretty skies, sunsets, sunrises and the stars, and knew this would be right up my alley, but nothing – absolutely nothing – prepared me for how mesmerizing it was to watch the sun set amongst the clouds.
Without a doubt, this was definitely a new favourite core memory, and capped off a birthday to remember.

Having just returned from visiting two continents for the very first time, North and South America, this blog shall contain a tale or two of my travels and an interesting foreign exchange encounter. It’s unknown whether visiting Peru during […]
