Texas, USA
The third largest citrus state in the USA after California and Florida is Texas. Currently the citrus crop is under threat in Texas due to chronic water shortages owing to a long running dispute with Mexico over delivery under a 1944 treaty whereby Mexico is supposed to deliver “1.75 million acre feet of water over a 5 year cycle” from the Rio Grande. Now in year 4 Mexico has actually delivered approximately one third of that water and Texas is feeling it. Mexico is saying that drought as a result of climate change is the culprit not Mexican intransigence to comply with the treaty.

Greece
12 years on from a seemingly inescapable crisis situation, Greece is free and has returned to investment grade status. Now that its banks that were bailed out by the EU are set to be fully privatised once again this year, Greece’s financial rehabilitation is seen as being complete. This has not been achieved lightly especially by the citizens of Greece who endured strict spending privations, lack of access to their own savings and a degree of financial hardship unseen outside a country at war.

EU Commission
With the leadership of the EU getting close, the question is if not Andrea Von der Leyen then who? The strongest case for the re-election of the incumbent is as the continuity candidate. The field is wider than it first appears and includes hardy annual Mario Draghi who is the strongest alternative candidate. But also in the running is ECB President Christine Lagarde-assuming she is not saving herself to er save France. Also in the running though an outsider is well regarded Maltese EU politico Roberta Metsola. Place your bets.

Color me your color, baby
Color me your car
Color me your color, darling
I know who you are
Come up off your color chart
I know where you’re coming from
Call me (call me) on the line
Call me, call me any, anytime
Call me (call me) I’ll arrive
You can call me any day or night
Call me
Cover me with kisses, baby
Cover me with love
Roll me in designer sheets
I’ll never get enough
Emotions come, I don’t know why
Cover up love’s alibi
Call me (call me) on the line
Call me, call me any, anytime
Call me (call me) I’ll arrive
When you’re ready we can share the wine
Call me
Have a Great Weekend!

Chancellor Reeves Market observers were no better informed at the end of the Rachel Reeves speech than they were at the outset yesterday morning. The only surprise was that having comprehensively floated options in the past two months for inclusion in her November 26 Autumn Statement, that the Chancellor should have elected to speak at […]
British Pound News that Chancellor Reeves had abandoned her controversial and politically charged plans to raise UK Income Tax on Friday morning sent the British Pound lower by lunchtime, however, Sterling recovered from most of that fall later on Friday. The reason given for the change of tack on Income Tax rises was that economic […]
Gold and Oil Following the longest US Government shut down ever, the market view is that following the re-opening of the US Government, the data reporting that has been absent will resume and that data will strengthen expectations of a cut in US interest rates. That resulted in the USD selling off and US Yields […]
