I am sure that some of you reading this can relate to the feeling of having no motivation or energy to stay active regularly. After a few years of encouragement by my brother, I started playing badminton weekly, beginning in August of last year. I have surprised myself with my consistency in staying on track (injury recovery weeks excluded!), having previously fallen victim to failed New Year’s resolutions of going to the gym. I have found that making the activity enjoyable is a strong factor in making staying active more achievable.
Badminton is a simple game to pick up, with the objective being to hit the shuttlecock with your racket to your opponent’s side. The first person/team to score 21 points wins. Although it is easy to learn, I soon found myself wanting to improve my technique and footwork to remain competitive.
If you are looking for ideas on keeping active, I wouldn’t outright recommend playing badminton but instead recommend finding an activity that you enjoy, perhaps something from your childhood or younger years. Joining a club for that activity is a great way to meet new people or just have fun with your friends. Clubs are also usually based on skill levels, so even if you haven’t played that sport in a long time, you won’t struggle to find balanced games.

This year’s edition was undoubtedly one of the most ambitious yet. Under the theme “The Winning Formula – Champions & Challengers”, the event celebrated 75 years of the Formula […]
