Since I was fifteen, I have travelled to Lourdes every year in July. Each visit feels like coming home, yet every journey brings something new, shared with old friends and new faces alike.
Lourdes is a place of hope and solace. Returning year after year has shown me the power of care, compassion, and community. Lourdes is also a place of fun and friendship, and plenty of Provence rose! Of an evening, we gather to socialise and sing with other members of the pilgrimage, a nice release after a busy day.
For me, the pilgrimage is not just about personal reflection. It is also about serving others. Caring for the assisted pilgrims, helping them navigate the journey, and ensuring their comfort is more rewarding than I can describe.
Seeing their smiles, hearing their stories, and witnessing the relief that comes from small acts of kindness reminds me why I return each year. Each moment of service, however small, feels meaningful. Being part of a community that shares such warmth and generosity is humbling.
Lourdes has become more than a place for me. It is a sanctuary where I find both peace and purpose. The energy of the pilgrimage, the sense of connection, and the chance to give back creates a fulfilment unlike anything else I have experienced.
Each visit reinforces the power of human connection, the importance of care, and the enduring spirit of hope that Lourdes embodies. It is a tradition of compassion that continues to shape who I am and inspires me throughout the rest of the year.
This Bonfire Night, I swapped fireworks for stage pyrotechnics, I spent the evening watching Benson Boone light up the O2. The evening was filled with out-there outfits, insane vocals and backflips off grand pianos. Benson Boone is a true showman, and a modern-day Freddie Mercury reincarnate, my mother would adore him! Thanks to my ever-resourceful […]
I recently had the chance to escape to Athens for a weekend. It’s one of those places where history and ancient civilisation feel alive. The Ancient Agora of Athens, sitting in the shadow of the Acropolis, has even more to tell than the city’s main attraction itself. The Agora was the main marketplace of ancient […]
In June a couple mates and I decided to take on Snowden, the highest peak in Wales and one of the infamous 3 peaks of the UK, for a weekend escape that balanced challenge with enjoying nature in its highest form (at least within driving distance). We based ourselves in a small Welsh Town called […]
