Corfu

At the end of the summer, I went to Corfu with my family. We were in a nice resort right on the sea. With bottomless food, drink and a sunny beach, I can’t say that I did much other than enjoy those three things. Spending my time on the beach with either a book or swimming in the water was a perfect way to unwind and relax. It wasn’t all perfect weather, a couple of nights we had some spectacular lightning storms roll in from off the sea, having lightning strike all around us and thunder coming from all angles was an impressive sight and awesome in a whole other way.

The only time I ended up leaving the resort was to visit the White House, the old home of Gerald Durrell and his family, now a restaurant. Visiting a wonderful place like that, still right on the see, was great. The food was fantastic and definitely the highlight of the holiday, in terms of food. Having three courses of wonderful food, with good wine and a view of the sea and island across from you, there isn’t much more you could want in an evening. The restaurant itself was full of old memorabilia from the various TV shows and movies that had been shot around the island. It was an interesting place to be and a good place to go to get out the resort in the middle of the holiday.

Finally, we made the most of the tennis court on resort and tried to play a little, even taking some lessons from one of the on-site coaches. Whilst it was good fun, it is safe to say I’m still probably the worst tennis player in the family, not just backed up by my play but also by the coach pretty openly saying it! Overall, a very good holiday with a good mix of relaxing and activity that helped me enjoy the last bits of summer I’ll probably see until June next year, when the seasons change again.
