Squash is often known as the prison sport. It’s often thought that the game was invented in a prison cell where inmates would hit a ball back and forth against the solid four walls within which they were contained. You’ll be pleased to know my passion for squash did not start from similarly humble origins and I instead got a taste for the sport at University. Sadly, these days I don’t quite share the same physique that I did at university – after all what’s a few stone between friends? This can take its toll with some injuries and as my Welsh squash coach all too frequently reminds me, if I ran a bit faster I might win some more matches. As it stands this week I’m up 2 for 2 in games with an as yet unscathed body ready for the next game on Friday.
