A Day Out in The Cotswolds

Last Saturday turned into an unexpected adventure when my dad invited me to one of his ‘Old Boy’ school reunions. We headed to the picturesque Cotswolds, a place known for its rolling hills and charming villages. This time, though, we weren’t there for the scenery alone—we were going clay pigeon shooting.

Having not shot in over five years, I was both excited and a bit nervous about the day. The event was set up as a friendly competition among my dad’s old-school friends, and the atmosphere was both competitive and jovial. We had 20 minutes to warm up before the competition began. Despite only hitting 25 out of 50 clays, I won a bottle of wine for the “Average Shot”. Unsurprisingly, my dad who is much better than me, placed third and received an award.

After the shooting, we all drove to the Frog Mill, a scenic pub nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds countryside. The pub is famous for its food and views, having won “Gloucestershire Pub of the Year” in 2022. The day ended with a couple of pints of Guinness and a hearty pub roast.
